EARTH DAY 365 PROJECT

Earth day is every day for us as we make subtle changes every single day. Calley at Eco Chic is doing Earth Day 365 Project, listing 40 things for the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day... Let me see if I can do this in the order that I started!

1. Turning off lights when not in use
2. Reducing my red meat consumption. I'm still working on the hot dogs. I found some nitrate-free ones. Yay!  Now switching it to turkey dogs...soon. Turkey bacon didn't go too well. I only buy ground turkey now.
3. Recycling papers
4. Recycling cardboards
5. Recycling plastics
6. Recycling glasses
7. Turning off water when brushing teeth. I'm still working on when I'm washing dishes that are not dishwasher-safe.
8. Not buying much make-up. If I do I would look for eco-friendly alternatives.
9. Buying all natural biodegradable laundry detergents. I mostly use Country Save. I have another full box to go. I've been hearing a lot about Rockin Green which I would love to try!
10. Washing clothing in cold water
11. Running the dishwasher and the laundry machine only when full.
12. Setting my AC/heater to 77/72, respectively. We use the fan if necessary. I actually don't mind the summer setting but the winter setting I have to bundle up. My comfortable temperature would be 75, LOL!
13. Switching to cloth diapers. It's been 14 months since I started CDing.
14. Using cloth wipes
15. Line-drying my cloth diapers.
16. Unplugging appliances when not in use.
17. Not buying water bottles.
18. Not buying soda pops. Hence, I don't really recycle aluminum cans.  It's also calcium-depleting and very bad for you!
19. Switching to mostly CFL light bulbs
20. Buying all-natural and non-toxic cleaning products. I need to start making my own with products that I have aroound the home like vinegar and baking soda!
21. Using cloth napkins instead of paper towels. I haven't brought any paper towels for a few months now.
22. Using cloth towels to clean up. Once I started I can't believe why I buy the disinfecting wipes in the first place!
23. Reusing grocery plastic bags as trashbags.
24. Bringing reusable tote bags for groceries
25. Not buying plastic baggies when packing lunches. This is hard when Sissy has to bring in a throw-away lunch for her field trips! I've actually managed to save some small paper bags that Hubby gets from his adult drink.
26. Planting a garden. Hubby does this. He plants tomatoes (cherry and regular) and cucumbers. We already have sour lettuce and herb plant that my mom gave to me and a strawberry patch garden.
27. Using reusable drinking bottles
28. Packing my lunch to work
29. Going paperless for paying bills
30. Using mama pads. No more buying disposable pads.
31. Using less tampons. I brought a diva cup. It's actually easy to use once you get used to it. I don't think I can do it if I'm not at home, though.
32. Choosing all-natural and/or organic food when possible
33. Buying more local grown foods
34. Using low to zero VOC paint. I can't stand the smell of paint. It gives me a headache. Hubby, please, buy these instead! Sissy wants to redo her room. We actually haven't changed the original color to the house since we moved in about 4 years ago.
35. Shopping less for things. I loves a saving but started not buying stuff just because it was on sale!

I'll add more when I can think of anything else or start something new. There's always plenty of room for improvements!

36.
37.
38.
39.
40.

The best part is about being eco-friendly is my family can save a lot of money and live a healthier lifestyle!

**CLOSED** Tropical Tradition Organic Coconut Cream Concentrate { Review and Giveaway }

"Coconut Cream Concentrate is certified organic whole coconut meat in concentrated form. It contains no additives* (not even water). The dried coconut meat is ground into a very fine powder, giving it a creamy consistency due to its high fat content. Since it is 70% fat, it is a rich source of pure coconut oil. Note: this is a food, not a cooking oil."

I usually have only one cup of coffee and put in 2 spoonful of condensed milk. Sugar if no condensed milk is around, so I found these 2 recipes to be very interesting.  The ingredients are not very typical: Coconut Cream Concentrate and cocoa powder. I'll have to try it tomorrow and let you guys know what I think about it! I'm off to make the Rolled Sugar Cookies with my Coconut Flour before Sissy comes home from school. Baby Girl's napping and Bubbie's occupied with TV.

Non-Dairy Coconut-Mocha Coffee Creamer
* 1 cup Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil
* 1 cup Coconut Cream Concentrate
* 1/2 - 1 teaspoon concentrated stevia powder or honey (or to taste)
* 2-3 tablespoons organic cocoa powder

Gently soften or melt coconut oil and coconut cream until you can stir them. Add sweetener and cocoa and mix until thoroughly combined.

Coffee Heaven
* 1 large 12 oz cup of regular brewed coffee
* 1 ½ teaspoons coconut cream concentrate
* 1 ½ teaspoons cocoa powder
* sweetener of your choice

Mix all ingredients together in a large coffee mug. Okay, I tried this...it's actually good and flavorful. I like my coffee with cream on it, too! Will adding coconut oil make it into a non-dairy creamer? I don't know if I want to have this every day, though.

Buy it: The Organic Coconut Concentrate is on sale now for $16 with their BOGO promotion. This promotion ends tomorrow April 29th! You can also get a free book, Virgin Coconut Oil, when you use my referral numbers (5253786) on your first online order. See Referral Program instructions at the bottom of my original post here. Or you can win it...

iPhone Apps For Kids

My hubby finally got an iPhone, but it's from work. I couldn't bring myself to update my phone, which I only use to make or receive an occasional calls. My phone doesn't even have the ability to take pics! Well, hubby has downloaded a few kid's apps like Dr Seuss's ABC. Baby Girl was very intrigued and didn't let the iPhone go for anything. I don't think iPhone would be good for bedtime stories. I don't want to hear any crying right before bedtime! Visit the Best Kids Apps for their reviews of kid-friendly apps. Here are some you might like:

CSN Stores Boon Animal Toy Bag { Review }

CSN Stores offer over a million plus products from over 200 stores! There's a little or a BIG something for everyone...They have eco-friendly kids furniture, kids bedding, and toys. These are all available at Baby and Kids section.

I've received the Boon Oval Animal Toy Bag as requested. My kids each have their own pile of stuff animals in each and almost every room of our house! I try to stop the madness but every once in a while a few still gets in the house. The toy netting is great for storage but it's hard to put the stuff animals back. I usually just try to throw it back in there. No convenience! The Boon bag definitely makes it easier to store them. It's also a comfortable sitting bag. The kids can take them out and return them back by themselves. Remember those bean bag! I always wanted one when I was a kid. Now here is the Boon bag...

  • Made from high quality, breathable fabrics
  • Machine washable, or it can be dry-cleaned
  • Solves stuffed animal storage dilemma
  • Earth-friendly because unlike most beanbag chairs it does not require any foam fillers
  • Toys not included
  • Also available in pink
We turned this pile of stuff animals into the sitting bag. The bag doesn't look as big as the picture above; but there was still plenty of space for more stuffing! There are 4 see-through netting area that you can zip opened for easy access to the toys. The kids now can put them away themselves!

Connect with them on Twitter and Facebook.

They also have a FB giveaway. They are giving away $500 when they reached 10,000 fans!  They are already over 5800+ already.

Happy Earth Day

Today will be a busy day for me if we don't get it got rained out! Bubbie is going to Deanna Rose Farmstead for his preschool's field trip. Sissy's 2nd grade classes and the 5th graders are beautifying their school for the whole day. Baby Girl gets to enjoy the whole day WITHOUT a nap! Up early to get the sunscreen in. Forecast for rain the rest of the week...

It did RAIN .... and very cold! We did go to the Farmstead. It was sprinkling and started to rain while we were there. We didn't stay there too long since I didn't grab the kids' jackets or even an umbrella! Call Sissy's school to cancel coming in with the LO. Sissy' class was working outside then. As I'm writing this, it's starting to thunder. Baby Girl DID get her nap. She's asleep. Nice and cozy in the bed. Poor Sissy went to school without a jacket. I did make her change into a longer short but it's mid 50s outside...

Remember about the Twitter Party event tonight at 9 EST to talk about cloth diaper and win some great prizes. Time to tuck the kids in bed early!

I'm tired and sleepy in this dreary weather. Time for me to take a nap. Hopefully, Bubbie will let me...

    Favicon on My Website and Missing Pics?

    For the pass couple of days I've been trying to set up a Favicon to my blog. Very confusing to say the least, plus I'm not very tech savvy. But I found a great site if you want to set one up for your website. It's at Rumbling Lankan! I grabbed Sissy's pic again.

    I went to Iconj to download my pic and grabbed the link on the bottom and paste it in the Edit HTML.  I was able to download my favion.ico to my computer, too, but other website kept stating I needed to download it to the main directory or something about FTP, which I downloaded then had no idea what to do with it!

    His is the only one that state to post the link after title and it worked! It only took me a few minutes instead of days to figure it out! Yay!!!

    Be forewarned...Try the Iconj first. I had no problem with it after visiting the other site first called ImageBoo, another free image hosting site, which as adult content on their site!

    **************************************************************
    I also deleted some old pics from Photobucket, so if you're reading my archives, some of the pics might be missing. This is also a free image hosting site but the link to my favicon didn't work when I plugged.  I used it earlier on my blog to grabbed pics but,  for me, it was easier to download to my computer and deleting it later. My pics stay on my website after I delete it from my computer!

    Organically Grown { Review }

    Organically Grown have recently added Organic Toddler Clothing to their collection. The collection is comprised of adorable two-piece outfits for boys and girls in sizes 12-24 months, and 2T-4T. With the cute and eco-friendly slogans on each of the tees sets, your toddler can wear their heart on their sleeve with a new message every day of the week!

    We received the Organic Cotton Girls "Pretty Natural" Toddler 2 Piece Set. It's perfect for the Spring! The cotton outfit is soft and 100% certified organic. Butterfly design on the tees are stitch on. I received my product within a few days of confirmation for the review! I'm interested to see what they will bring in the fall/winter season. I know I'm already skipping summer, LOL.

    They also have an Infant Collection from newborn to 9 months. Some of their best sellers include three-piece sets with baby gowns, body suits, jackets, pants, blankets and hats, all on padded hangers and priced between $12-38.

    They also sell blankets and home wall décor for the nursery. Sissy is into peace sign. She would like the "Floral Peace Sign" wall décor.

    WHY ORGANIC?
    As the awareness of the effect that pesticides and toxins have on the environment and individual health grows, more and more families are realizing the importance of choosing organic products. Making this choice is not only good for our earth; it is good for all of us. With your help, organic textile production will increase, becoming more of a standard in the clothing industry.

    According to the Organic Exchange, as estimated 170 million pounds of pesticides, and 25% of the world's insecticides are used in the production of conventional, non-organic cotton. 7 out of 10 of these pesticides are on the EPA's "known" list of "likely" or "probable" carcinogens. These chemicals result in the work-force illnesses, water contamination, and the devastation of farmland. All of the problems are eliminated through organic farming practices. Organically Grown is proud to be a part of the solution.
    If you haven’t already, now is the time to choose organic fabrics for you and your family. Organic cotton has all the high quality, soft and cuddly texture with none of the harsh chemicals to irritate your child’s delicate skin. Our products are not only breathable and cuddly; they are also recyclable, renewable, and biodegradable. With products by Organically Grown, there is no need to compromise between your budget and your conscience. As well as being ECO-FRIENDLY, their clothes are AFFORDABLE and STYLISH.

    Connect with them on Facebook, Twitter, and on their blog.

    Be sure to check out Etsy It Up. She has a giveaway from Organically Grown till April 9th!

    Happy Easter!

    Bubbie had a little party at preschool (on Thursday). Bubbie working on an Easter frame. Baby Girl happily sat herself down at the table ready for the treats, decorating their own sugar cookie, after finding some baby dolls in the drawers. I don't have to worry about her not wanting to go in a year or two. She ready for school..

    I got home from work this a.m. and did the Easter Hunt with the kids. Baby Girl's first year participating! I got up early today around 1P again to write a post about Hershey's Better Easter Basket but it had already ended! Thanks for thinking of me anyway, Happily Southern.

    I wish there is a way to add video on blogger so I don't have to download it from YouTube to get my video. All these extra steps, LOL!

    Baby Girl is still asleep. The other two are outside playing. Hubby's somewhere doing laundry. His own! Actually he's been doing his laundry since I can remember. I'm off to take another nap! Happy Easter, Everyone!!!

    Extension on PicPocket Giveaway

    Okay, I was hoping more people were interested in this giveaway. Dear hubby just got an iphone from work! I'm a little jealous but I'm glad I don't have to pay that bill.

    I'm extending it for another 10 days. Fingers crossed, LOL! The PicPocket Giveaway will end on 4/14. I hope I'm not disappointing anyone on that decision! I'll start doing my twittering to promote it more.

    If you're following me on Twitter you know that I haven't been too crazy twittering up a storm lately. I know that can be annoying at times because my sister told me so, LOL! I told her that I wouldn't be offend if she took me off. She's not into giveaway like I am. Hehehe!

    Thanks everyone for visiting me. I truly appreciate it !

    **CLOSED** ThermaPAK { Review & Giveaway }

    Congratulation to VickieB at VickieB's Ramblings and My Sweepstakes Rants and Raves!

    Okay, I got put on-call at work by choice. So I'm putting out another giveaway tonight! Yay...
    There are days that my laptop is left on, either writing on my post or having the kids play on the computer. Plus, we can only one laptop! It does get warm. Summer's just around the corner, making it even warmer to be on. ThermaPAK would come in handy.  Luckily if no one is on the computer, it does go into hiberation by itself! I didn't receive the product for personally use but I DO have a great giveaway for you!
    How It Works
    A device that transfers heat by conduction AND convection provides the maximum amount of heat exchange. Conduction is heat transferred directly from one object to another by physically touching. Convection is heat transferred by the movement of liquid molecules from warmer areas to cooler ones. HeatShift Technology™ pads utilize both conduction and convection to cool your laptop - and your lap!

    When a laptop cooler featuring HeatShift Technology™ is placed under any notebook computer, the crystals inside are in a solid state. As the underside of the laptop begins to warm up, this heat is transferred to the HeatShift Technology™ device. This transferral of heat gradually changes the PCM crystals into a liquid. ThermaPAK's pad grooves channel air under the laptop, and use the second law of thermodynamics (which states that heat will tend to flow from hot areas to cold ones to reach equilibrium) to draw heat from the laptop. Our lab results, as well as those of independent reviewers, have seen temperature decreases of up to 6°C (11°F). After the laptop begins to cool, the HeatShift Technology™ device changes back to a solid crystal - ready for the next use.
