Cloth Diaper Bloggers Carnival #4

How I first learned about cloth diapers.... This post is part of the Cloth Diapering Bloggers and Dirty Diaper Laundry hosted Cloth Diaper Carnival that is held every month. Many bloggers get together and write about the same topic. This month is “Where did you first hear about/ see cloth diapers?” We had multiples problems with diaper rash when Bubbie was starting solids as a baby. I wish I had research about cloth diaper then. It was not until I was trying to potty train Bubbie, 18 months later, when I thought about cloth ANYTHING. I think the disposable training pants even delayed his progress! I had two in diapers, Bubbie and Baby Girl, so I thought this would be a great opportunity and investment to try it out. It was an overwhelming processing until I found out about the one-size diaper! I was thrilled to say the least. I did experiment with the Kushies since I was able to order it online at Walmart and pick it up locally. I only brought one pack which contained only 5 diapers. That definitely was not enough! It was more of a test period for me to see if I like doing cloth. Eventually, I found the BumGenius 3.0 One-Size. I like how much softer it was compare to the Kushies. I became hook on cloth! I think my stash is pretty complete but for some reason I still want to get my hands on all these different types of diapers out there ! I didn't really asked if my husband was willing to participate. I just slowly weaned out the disposable and left the cloth diapers all stuff and ready to go for him! I did asked him how the cloth diapering was going. He didn't seem to mind too much, since I did the washing & stuffing for them. A different story is the cloth wipes for him. He's definitely not ready to give them up just yet. He is a messy wiper and even admits to it! I eventually switched to cloth wipes this month. I was much easier to clean the soiled diaper with the cloth wipes and throw it all in the diaper pail. I still can't convince my 2 sisters to do cloth, though! I don't really see much cloth diapering around me except in the blogosphere. That's where I turn to when I have questions or what to look something up... I've been cloth diapering full-time since February 2009. Maybe I'm still trying to find that perfect diaper for me Baby Girl. She still has an occasional diaper rash. We don't have any bamboo or hemp, yet...

I actually thought about the gDiapers when deciding what cloth diaper to use but I went against it since I would still have to get refills for them. Now they have the gCloth inserts! My New Menu Bar

I've got a new Menu Bar! It's a simple text with the tutorial by Real Life Blog by Sarah. If you're computer savvy, which I'm not, Sarah has other tutorials for the Menu Bar via Link Boxes using CSS and Image Buttons. Maybe down the road I would like to spice up the menu bar.... I did have a problem with #2. Sarah was very helpful and and also quick in replying to her post. At first I had tried to list all my MENU ITEMS URL into one tab! I figure you could only link one up. **CLOSED** Oxygen Bleach from Tropical Traditions { Review and Giveaway }

Oxygen Bleach by Tropical Traditions is a non-chlorine, destainer and deodorizer and whitener. It's "safe and effective alternative to chlorine" with "no harmful by-products which negatively affect the environment." Ingredients are Sodium percarbonate and soda ash (Sodium carbonate).
I had a chance to use with my cloth diapers. I know most of my stains are probably set up but I was able to lighten them a little bit. Blueberries poop stain are the worst, if you asked me. It's great for when you don't have the sun's help, especially this rainy fall days. In my case, I just won't get much chance to sun it! Plenty of times I forget about the laundry. When it's done, it's too late to bring them out .

I've actually cut down my washing time 60%! Before I would do a cold wash with detergent (40mins) then a hot wash with detergent (55mins) and then usually a hot wash without detergent (35mins)! A total of 130 minutes for my cloth diapers!!! My first time I thought I could cut corner and it didn't work too well .

My 2nd time around using the Oxygen Bleach I did it in about 81minutes. I did a cold prewash (11mins), soak in hot water with Oxygen Bleach (30mins), and a hot wash with detergent (40mins). I should mention I have a front load washer and did one scoup of the Oxygen Bleach. My main detergent that I used is Country Save. (I still have 2 more boxes of them. All I have to say is Amazon!) It worked out well and the cloth diaper didn't have a stink to them! I did alter the instructions and here it is:

For the Laundry
* In the laundry Oxygen Bleach is used to destain, deodorize, and whiten. It is very effective as a laundry presoak for heavily stained articles. For light soils add 1 ounce of Oxygen Bleach with your laundry detergent per load. For moderate soils use 2ounces and for heavily soiled articles use 4 ounces.
* To whiten and deodorize diapers add 4-6 ounces of Oxygen Bleach into the soak cycle. Soak in hot water for at least 30 minutes, or overnight, then complete wash cycle.
* For whitening old linens and yellowed window shears, deodorizing and cleaning tennis shoes, or to get rid of yellow armpit stains on shirts: soak in 2 ounces of Oxygen Bleach per gallon of water for at least one hour, or overnight, then rinse.

The Oxygen Bleach is multipurpose cleaner! It can be use in the kitchen, bathroom, yard, household, camping, and wood deck. I'll have to try the wood deck instructions next summer and tell you about it! (We just had our fence done this year and it already looks old. I would love to have our deck expanded and relax on our deck. The deck is just a walkway down to the yard for us.)
